607.05 R1 - Transfer Credits for High School

Courses transferred from state approved and private schools will normally be accepted by the South Tama County Community High School.  Courses from other than approved schools may apply as transfer credit toward graduation from the South Tama County Community High School if the South Tama Community High School deems the work to be comparable to that which can be earned as an enrolled student at the STC High School.  Although credits are normally transferred from approved schools, such credits and grades will not include a weighted scale.  Instead, credits and grades will be translated into the South Tama County High School grading, credit and ranking scale.  When this is not a reasonable option, the credit may be transferred without being included in GPA ranking.

Transfer of credits will normally be accepted from non-accredited sources only if the arrangements for the method of acceptance is worked out in advance.  Further, the number of such credits will usually be restricted to a total of 12 (# subject to revision) credits, and none of the last 12 credits may be earned by transfer from non-accredited sources.  While the school sponsored Home School Assistance Program will supervise instruction beyond the credit limit, the limits on numbers of credits accepted and advanced approval for acceptance toward graduation from High School also applies to credits earned under the Home School Assistance Program.

No grades for transfer courses will be accepted unless the credits are from a state approved high school.  To qualify for any of the Honor Awards at the STC High School, a student must have attended STC High School for at least two semesters in a state approved private or public school for a total of eight semesters unless the student qualifies for and accepts early graduation according to STC policy.
