OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION OF THE
SOUTH TAMA COUNTY COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT
The Board of Directors of the Community School District of South Tama County met on October 19, 2026 for a Work Session at the Partnership Center, Tama, Iowa following the Regular Session. The Work Session was called to order at 6:56 p.m.
On call of the roll the following were present: Elizabeth Dolezal, Rick Hopper, and Michael Avis. Joe Hanus and Danya Keahna were absent. Quorum present. Also present were: Superintendent John Cain, Katie Mathern, and Art Sathoff with Grundmeyer Leader Services.
Motion by Hopper, second by Avis to approve the agenda. All Ayes. The motion carried.
The Board met with Grundmeyer Leader Services to discuss the superintendent search process, including the hiring timeline, salary and benefits, contract terms, job posting, stakeholder survey, and interview process. A salary range of $160,000-$180,000 was established for recruitment purposes. The stakeholder survey will close November 13, applications will close January 3, candidate review will take place January 11, screening interviews will be held January 18, and formal interviews are scheduled for February 3, with February 4 as a backup date. The Board also discussed stakeholder involvement, candidate confidentiality, and communication throughout the search process.
Motion by Avis, second by Hopper to adjourn the meeting at 8:43 p.m.
