OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION OF THE
SOUTH TAMA COUNTY COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT
The Board of Directors of the Community School District of South Tama County met on February 11, 2026 for a work session at Taqueria la Terraza, Tama, Iowa beginning at 5:00 p.m.
On call of the roll the following were present: Elizabeth Dolezal, Rick Hopper, and Joe Hanus. Danya Keahna, and Megan Thiessen were absent. Quorum Present. Also present were: Superintendent John Cain, Board Secretary Katie Mathern, Jon Huebner, Ben Adams, Joe Otten, Jennifer Nelson, Sam Peska, and Janelle Pirkl.
Motion by Hopper, second by Hanus to approve the agenda. All Ayes. The motion carried.
The Board and administrators reviewed the Strategic Plan and discussed priorities for strengthening student achievement, district systems, and public perception. The Board reviewed ELA, Math, and Science outcome goals, FastBridge benchmarks, and the district’s system goal of monitoring MTSS implementation and aligning instructional and student service supports.
Board members identified and prioritized focus areas including raising academic and behavioral expectations, 2.0 eligibility, homework and cell phone expectations, enhancing parent and community involvement, expanding student activities, and improving engagement around ISASP and conferences. Discussion centered on aligning these efforts with “Our Why” and improving overall district performance.
Motion by Hanus, second by Hopper to adjourn the meeting at 6:55 p.m.
